Orthodontics – Invisalign, Clear Aligners & Bite Correction in Indiranagar, Bangalore

Orthodontic treatment straightens your teeth and improves how your upper and lower jaws meet. A well‑aligned smile looks better, is easier to keep clean, and wears more evenly over time, reducing the risk of excessive wear, fractures, and gum problems. The cosmetic change is important, but it is only one part of the overall health benefit.

At Dental Solutions Clinic in Indiranagar, Bangalore, orthodontic care is led by Dr. Ramya Balasubramanya – MDS Prosthodontics, BDS Gold Medallist (RGUHS University Topper), Certified Invisalign Provider, Clear Path Certified Practitioner, and Certified Digital Smile Design (DSD) Practitioner. With more than 25 years of specialist experience, she focuses on clear aligner treatment for adults who want precise bite correction with a discreet look, using a fully digital workflow with intraoral scans, Invisalign ClinCheck simulations, and DSD‑based smile planning.

What Is Orthodontics?

Orthodontics is the branch of dentistry that diagnoses, prevents, and treats misaligned teeth and jaws. It uses gentle, controlled forces from braces, clear aligners, or other appliances to guide teeth into healthier positions over time. These forces create a natural response in the ligament and bone around each tooth, allowing safe, gradual movement when treatment is properly planned and monitored.

Conditions We Treat

Dental crowding

When there is not enough space in the jaw, teeth can rotate, overlap, or erupt out of line. Mild to moderate crowding is often ideal for clear aligners; moderate cases may need arch expansion or specific tooth movements, while very severe crowding can require premolar extraction to create space.

Spacing and diastema

Gaps between teeth, including spaces between the front teeth, can be closed by moving teeth toward each other when the cause is tooth‑size or jaw‑size mismatch. In many of these cases, orthodontic closure is preferred; composite bonding or veneers are options when tooth movement is not suitable, or the patient prefers a non‑orthodontic solution.

Deep bite and excessive overbite

In a deep bite, the upper front teeth cover the lower front teeth too much and, in severe cases, the lower teeth bite into the palate. Deep bites can often be treated with Invisalign using planned intrusion and extrusion of selected teeth, and, when needed, bite ramps built into the aligners, with all changes visible in the ClinCheck plan.

Open bite

An open bite exists when the front teeth do not meet, even though the back teeth are touching. It is often linked to habits like tongue thrusting. Treatment combines tooth movement with habit correction and, in some cases, with major jaw imbalance, may involve orthodontics plus jaw surgery.

Crossbite

In a crossbite, one or more upper teeth bite inside the lower teeth at the front or back, which can make the jaw shift to one side and overload the TMJ. Correction is easiest in growing patients, but many dental crossbites without a strong skeletal cause can still be treated successfully with clear aligners in adults.

Malocclusion linked to bite or restorative needs

Orthodontics is often needed before restorative work. Teeth that have drifted after extractions may need to be moved back into position, narrowed spaces may need to be reopened, and over‑erupted teeth may need to be intruded to create space for crowns or implants. At DSC these combined ortho‑restorative cases are planned together using Dr. Ramya’s orthodontic and prosthodontic expertise.

Orthodontic Treatments at DSC

Invisalign clear aligners

Invisalign is a leading clear aligner system that uses a series of custom, removable trays based on a detailed ClinCheck digital plan. The aligners are almost invisible, can be removed for meals and brushing, and let you see a preview of how your teeth are expected to move and how your smile should look at the end of treatment.

Fixed orthodontic braces

When tooth movements are beyond what aligners handle predictably – for example, large rotations, complex vertical changes, or difficult extraction‑space closure – fixed braces are recommended. Tooth‑coloured ceramic brackets are available to make fixed treatment less noticeable for adults.

Retainers – removable and fixed

Retainers are essential after any orthodontic treatment to hold teeth in their new positions. DSC provides custom Essix removable retainers, made from Primescan digital scans, and fixed retainers bonded behind the front teeth where needed, to reduce the risk of relapse.

Orthodontic preparation for implants

Before implant placement, teeth that have tilted, drifted, or over‑erupted into a gap are often repositioned to create ideal space and angulation for the implant and future crown. At DSC, this is coordinated by Dr Ramya for orthodontics and by Dr Balasubramanya for implant surgery, using a shared digital plan.

Technology We Use – Why It Matters

Orthodontic treatment at DSC is planned and monitored through a fully digital workflow, which improves accuracy, predictability, and the quality of your final bite.

Planmeca Primescan intraoral scanner

A handheld 3D scanner that replaces alginate impressions for records, creating precise digital models without trays or impression material; scans go directly to Invisalign ClinCheck and into DSD planning.

Invisalign ClinCheck simulation

A digital model that shows the expected position of each tooth at every stage before the first aligner is made, so you and your dentist can review and adjust the plan in advance.

RVG digital radiography

Fast, low‑dose X‑rays that show roots, bone levels, and impacted teeth at the start and during treatment, helping ensure that movement stays within safe limits.

Planmeca ProMax CBCT

3D cone‑beam CT scans for complex cases, such as impacted canines or jaw discrepancies, providing detailed views of roots, bone, and jaw relationships that 2D X‑rays cannot show.

Digital Smile Design (DSD) software

Facial analysis tools that overlay tooth and smile designs on photographs so target tooth positions match your facial features and planned cosmetic work.

Intraoral photography

Standardised photos taken through treatment to record changes, compare with ClinCheck stages, and help you clearly see your progress.

Frequently Asked Questions

Am I too old for orthodontic treatment?

No. Teeth can move at any age if the teeth, gums, and supporting bone are healthy, so adults in their 40s, 50s, and 60s regularly complete treatment; movement may be slightly slower, and gum health needs closer monitoring, but there is no fixed upper age limit.

Time varies with the amount of movement required. Mild spacing or crowding often takes 6–12 months; more complex bites usually need 12–18 months; and advanced or combined restorative cases may need 18–24 months. Your ClinCheck plan shows the estimated number of aligners and timeline before you start.

Yes. Invisalign aligners should be worn 20–22 hours per day and removed only for eating, drinking anything other than water, and cleaning; wearing them less can slow progress, reduce accuracy, and create a need for extra refinement aligners.

Teeth tend to drift back toward their original positions if you do not wear retainers. Long‑term use of removable and/or fixed retainers is therefore essential to keep your new smile stable.

Yes. Treating relapse after prior orthodontic treatment is one of the most common reasons adults choose Invisalign, provided teeth and gums are healthy; DSC assesses this with a scan, an examination, and a gum check before planning retreatment.

A mild lisp is common for a few days while your tongue adjusts to the aligners, but most people, including those who speak for a living, return to normal speech within about a week.
